Community Member Terms of Use

1. Purpose of the our Private Members Club

This group exists to provide peer support, cultural connection, and practical advice for South Africans resettling in the United States. We are a private community built on mutual respect and shared experience.

2. Verification & Membership

  • Identity: All members must be verified through the community admin process to ensure the safety of the group.

  • Privacy: This is a private space. Sharing screenshots, member lists, or personal stories outside of this group without express permission is grounds for immediate removal.

3. Scam Prevention & Financial Safety

  • No "Visa Agents": The U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) is FREE. Any member offering "guaranteed visas" or asking for "processing fees" will be banned and reported to the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria.

  • No Solicitation: Do not ask members for money, loans, or investments. Business promotions are only allowed in designated "Marketplace" threads.

4. Code of Conduct

  • Respect: No hate speech, tribalism, or political harassment. We are here to help each other succeed in our new home.

  • Information Accuracy: When sharing advice on Green Cards, Social Security, or SNAP benefits, cite official sources (like .gov websites) whenever possible. Misinformation can put someone’s legal status at risk.

  • No Legal Advice: Members are peers, not attorneys. Always consult your assigned Resettlement Case Worker or a qualified immigration lawyer for legal matters.

5. Confidentiality (The "Braai Rule")

What is discussed at the "braai" stays at the "braai." Many members are in sensitive legal positions. Respect the "off-the-record" nature of our conversations to protect everyone’s privacy and safety.

6. Disclaimer

The Club and its admins are not affiliated with the U.S. State Department, DHS, or any resettlement agency (like CWS or IRC). Participation is at your own risk.
